Save money on your LTL!

June 22, 2020

Hello & Warm Regards from, Jane Barnett, The Shipping Emporium. We’d like to review your LTL an TL shipping needs, to see how we can both save your company, and offer you all of the Freight Carriers on the market.

Please contact us any time if you need a Freight Quote.

Instead of shipping all your freight separately, try to consolidate your freight into as few shipments as possible. Your company should ship this way 1) This practice lowers the chance that your freight will be damaged or lost in transit.

Ask us about our 3rd party Cargo Insurance to help protect your shipment in transit.

2) Consolidated Freight takes up less space on the truck, and in LTL Shipping the less space that a shipment takes up, the lower your freight rate will be!

3) How will you know if you could save money with a Dedicated truck for a larger shipment OR save money with an LTL Carrier for a shipment that is over-length but if palatalized could go by LTL?

– This is what The Shipping Emporium will handle for you. Our goal is to find YOU the best Carriers for your money. It will always be based upon what is shipping and the size of each pallet. That is how we can save you money, along with shopping our carrier network for the best rates.

3) For the space of the truck, when you consolidate your freight then your shipment will be denser. Denser shipments are less expensive to transport. Potentially save money on your LTL shipments with our help at The Shipping Emporium.

When you reach out, we will ask several questions to make sure that the right sized truck is sent and to ensure the best possible Freight Quote. Please be sure to include accurate Dimensions (length x width x height) for each pallet or handling unit.

A short-list of what my company, The Shipping Emporium can do for you:

BOL Creation and changes.

Dispatch and scheduling.

Invoice Auditing and extra phone calls or inquiries to you and to the dispatcher if needed.

We can assist when you are sending unusual or haz-mat, including batteries.

Verify delivery appointments.

We sure hope that we can help your company or agency with your next Freight order!

Common LTL Problems Resolved

Here is a list of what your company should be aware of when you ship LTL Freight. Your quotes may not be valid if your shipment takes 8 linear feet or more. We can give you a ‘spot quote’ . Sometimes a spot quote is also for a day or for only a week. Make sure that you have a date that the quote expires and if your actual shipping date is after then we can re-quote and hopefully the rate is the same, depends on what’s shipping, the size, the pick up and destination locations both!

  • Packaging. If you are the buyer and picking up at a vendor’s dock, require pictures of your wrapped and bound and palatalized freight. Ask them for the correct dimensions (l x w x ht) number of pallets, and if the skids are stack-able or non. There is nothing more heart-breaking than sending a 26-foot box truck only to find out that your manufacturer has decided to non-stack your skids, after they said that you could. Then you would have to send in a NEW 52-foot dry van causing further delays and cost to you.
  • Ask us for a “Cargo Insurance ” quote that we have through 3rd party sources, to enhance the Limited Liability through each carrier.
  • Pictures. It is a good idea for your shipper to take pictures and to show a tape measure, if possible, for your shipments size (length x width x height). There can be billing issues later and if you can provide this information then you can be ensured that you can win a billing dispute. Also, in the event of a claim you will fare better through a Carrier claim with pictures taken right before loading.
  • Transit Times. If you expect that you need and LTL shipment guaranteed by a certain date, you could save money by going with Standard LTL vs “Time Critical”. The latter will put the guaranteed delivery date and time while the Standard LTL service is an estimated transit time. Time Critical shipping is given higher priority. There are times when you can save more time and aggravation by upgrading to time- critical on your LTL. Just ask us if there are options for time critical for you. If you or someone else needs your freight to be delivered by a certain date, please consider trying “Time Critical”. It’s more expensive but at least you will have the delivery date stamped onto the Bill of Lading.

For more information Call the Shipping Emporium to find out which TL or LTL shipping will work best for you.

Thank you for your business!

Increase your potential for MORE govt business

June 8, 2020

Subject: Sub-Contracting to meet your DMBE subcontracting plan? ~ Partnering With ~ The Shipping Emporium

Good Afternoon – from your SWAM certified Freight Services Provider (LTL, TL and partial TLs offered at GREAT pricing from 100s of carriers in our network) The Shipping Emporium, your small, women owned vendor under eVA cert # 91829 and SWAM cert # 701061.

Our trucking services (From a pallet to an entire Truckload) are currently being used at many of the Universities and Agencies in Virginia that YOUR BUSINESS is already a service-provider for.

You can Ship Your Goods Faster, Easier and At Competitive Rates with – The Shipping Emporium. The Shipping Emporium is your ideal Trucking services provider to – all your commercial clients, and other Agencies in the state of Virginia, or to Federal Agencies and Military bases. If you are finding that your current process is too time consuming, and that the customer service could be better, then please call us.

How do I find a “good rate ” for a carrier who can also provide the extra services needed- without overcharging us–?

Some of our customers have utilized online based 3PL freight services and have been “happy with the price” but not the service. This is a perfect example of how & why you should call or email the Shipping Emporium for your LTL or TL Freight move!

Also, you are going to be incredibly happy with the Outstanding Customer Service that we do provide at The Shipping Emporium. Including, handling all Your BOL’s and all service- related phone calls to you and to the other parties.

We are experienced at handling pickups and deliveries to and from US Government and or State of Virginia Agencies and Universities.

Buying your Freight services (Domestic- over 150 pounds, or more than 4 feet x 4 feet regardless of weight) should be a good experience—please let us handle the compliance issues and carrier hassles for you! We will also audit your invoices to be sure you’re billed correctly and also liaise with the carriers, find you the best pricing for the Freight services that YOU need whether you’re listing our company as your DMBE certified sub-contractor for the state of Virginia (eVA) or also for your Federal contracting because we’re certified as a EDWOSB there too.

We are different because we sit down and meet with you to find out what your biggest concerns are and to make our Customer Service team is “on top of it”– all to your benefit. We are small, yet our pricing is deeply discounted as we offer a wide range of services to businesses and government agencies BOTH. We will ask you a lot of questions, only to make sure that ALL OF YOUR NEEDS are met, and yet you are getting the BEST PRICES.

Q- What is the difference between an LTL or a partial Truckload? A- Depends on the number of pallets, weight and the dimensions. Further, if a pallet or crate is more than 8.5 feet wide, long or tall, you will need a Flat Bed truck as Dry Vans (in other words your’ common carriers’) will not be able to load. However, don’t worry about this and other confusing question about shipping freight, just give the Shipping Emporium a call TODAY!

Q: How does utilizing “The Shipping Emporium” as our service provider for “Freight Services” help us, if we need to include heavy shipping in our bid to the eVA buyer – at a State University or other Institution, does this help us to win against competition?

There are many reasons but number 1- “Virginia’s buyers have a large goal to reach every year- for 42% procurement with SWAM & Microbusinesses. When you are submitting your bid for consideration, your chances for winning improve, if you list my company, The Shipping Emporium, as your subcontractor, because YOUR SUB-CONTRACTING PLAN counts towards your Buyer’s & their agencies 42% goal!

Call us for your next Freight Quote, and to see what we have to offer your Business.

Thanks, and Regards from,

Getting Back After COVID-19

Hello & Warm Regards from, Jane Barnett, The Shipping Emporium.

All your businesses have been impacted by the COVD19 and our thoughts go out to anyone who’s Family or Friends have been impacted by the COVID19.

you need us more than ever to help plan your Logistics & to book your Domestic Freight for when you are required to ship LTL or TL Freight. Carrier services are considered “Essential Business’ ” in all states however some of your pickup and delivery locations (in many states) have been closed or have been open only on a limited basis.

Here are some suggestions for making your Freight shipping easier, now or any time as we will all (hopefully) get back to business as usual this summer.

  1. Early summer (June, July, and August) are expected to be more busy & hectic for carriers as businesses and government institutions are planning to get back to work- and there will be many requests for pickups and deliveries all at the same time due to “pent up demand”. Please plan and ahead and please be patient.
  2. Also remember that Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays (Memorial Day or 4th or July, and sometimes the days before or after Major Holidays are not counted in the number of transit days.
  3. We can help you to call – or you can call to check ahead of time for your delivery location, to be sure that they are open at their docks for receiving or if there are any shorter hours as a result of the COVID19 Pandemic

A short-list of what my company, The Shipping Emporium can do for you:

  1.  BOL Creation and changes.
  2. Dispatch and scheduling.

Crates, Pallets and Skids

June 3, 2020

What are Shipping Crates for?

How are Pallets and Skids Different?

pallet has both a top and bottom deck that provides more stability than skids. Wood pallets are susceptible to damage from the elements and overuse. A skid is a single deck loading platform which lacks a bottom deck. It is a low-profile mobile platform which simply rests on pedestals attached to the deck.

Pallets are best for Strapping your goods to when shipping heavy (over 100 pounds to LTL or FTL Carriers) and Skids are best for your storage for heavy goods.

Crates are great for protecting your goods and can be custom-fit even for extreme-length shipments (to well over 100 inches long). Your freight, while in transit may be handled about 4 -5 times before being delivered. A woodn crate can be worth the cost for your valuable Freight. You can buy them fro Unline or other similar providers.

Pallet or Skid?

You have heard of a Pallet and also a Skid? What are they and how are they different?

A pallet is a flat structure with both a top and a bottom deck, consisted of three or four stringers that connect several dock boards.

However a Skid only has a top deck. That is why a ‘skid’ is used only for storing heavy objects. Whereas if you need to Ship LTL you will usually need the Pallet.

Please contact us any time if you need a Freight Quote.

LTL Freight and Truckloads both can be easily found with our Expertise.

Avoid Common LTL pitfalls

May 15, 2020

Here is a list of what your company should be aware of when you ship LTL Freight.

  1. Your quotes may not be valid if your shipment takes 8 linear feet or more. Make sure you receive a ‘spot quote’ from a shipping partner like The Shipping Emporium rather than an online based automated quote. (Or if we have an online rate for you please have us double check that it is valid based on the number of pallets, their size (l x w x ht) and weight each pallet.
